Skala Eressos Walkthrough
At the small harbor of Eressos you will find the picturesque Church of Agia Zoni also known affectionately by the locals as Panayiouda, nestled on the shores of a small rocky bay, ideal for fishing and snorkeling.

Most noteworthy is the white marble representation of Sappho playing the lyre, the first of a series of statues representing the most enigmatic figure from Eressos, Sappho.

In the background you will see the hill of Vigla the perfect vantage point for viewing the pink-tinged sunset over the deep blue of the Aegean Sea in the evening.

Walking the short distance between the harbor and Skala you will find more artistic interpretations of the various existing images we have of Sappho.

At the end of this walk we come across the first bar built right on the waterfront, Zorba the Buddha. This is followed by the very popular Breez Bar, painted in cool shades of white and blue and tastefully decorated, it is the perfect place to lounge around and sip your ice-cold frappe. And next door offering delicious international cuisine is Samadhi Restaurant.

Continuing along the harbor front you will find Mihali and his Gorgona Restaurant severing tasty traditional Greek food with fantastic service. Nearby is Cooya Caribu Bar with free internet access for those with laptops and wireless connections. The Margaritari has a great range of deserts catering for all you sweet tooths and the Thalassaki Gift Shop is a great place to buy unique souvenirs or gifts for loved ones.

Bar Par-A-Sol, is popular with locals and tourists alike. With its exotic feel and Latin themed music playing all day long it’s a favorite place to chill out. Next door to Par-a-sol you will find MataHari with its great selection of summer clothes and accessories.

Further down is Fairy Tale Food, a restaurant that successfully combines simple Mediterranean and modern flavors. Situated over the beach is Nikos with his new grill house, it's worthwhile to try his traditional tidbits and ouzo.

A great way to explore the surrounding countryside is by hiring a bicycle from MotoMotion. For those of you who are more lazy, scooters are also available for hire. Idees Gifts and Jewelry is across the road from Moto Motion and is yet another store that will cure your craving for some shopping therapy.

Malamo's Gift Shop is located across from Idees and is little treasure trove for special gifts while the neighboring Kinky Planet stocks a wide range of fantastic shirts, belts, hats, sunglasses and jewelry to ensure you look fashionable. Opposite the street you'll find the new location of the Earth Collection, which is a unique chain clothing store which produces environmentally friendly clothes in natural fabrics. Nearby lies Sappho Garden of the Arts a popular hang out for those keen on live performances, karaoke nights, poetry recitals and more.

Over the little bridge and to the left is the main square or plateia of Eressos and a popular place for locals and tourists alike. Children frequently play in the sand while being kept a watchful eye on by grandma sitting in the shade on a bench or by parents enjoying a refreshing drink at one of the cafes. The Tenth Muse Bar is popular for its amazing breakfast and great music, next door is Tasty Corner serving pizza, crepes, hamburgers, ice cream and more.

The Aubergine is the perfect place to soak in aura of Eressos. Café Eressos is equally suitable for chilling out and indulging in the Greek unofficial national sport of people watching. Nearby is the Sappho Souvernir Shop which has a large selection of tourist bric-a-brac. A large bronze statue of Sappho, the last of the series, serenely overlooks the commotion of the plateia.

At the edge of the plateia is the Aegean Restaurant, situated on a wooden pier overlooking the water, they also offer fantastic traditional cuisine with friendly service and panoramic view of the beach.

Further along the waterfront is Luca's Tourist Shop, the place to stock up on sunscreen and postcards and nearby is Chroma Bar with a selection of ice-creams and sweets for you to try. At Soulatso Restaurant you will enjoy a wonderfully cooked meal either for lunch or dinner, in an atmospheric location right next to the sea.

Further along the waterfront is Sappho Hotel Bar offering you individual hospitality and relaxation. Karavogiannos Fish Restaurant will entice you to indulge in fresh seafood and ouzo, while enjoying the fresh sea breeze. Next door is Roots Bar, yet another trendy café built over the water. Why not stop and try one of their delicious snacks and drinks? They also offer free wireless internet access for their customers.

Antonis Restaurant, the last of restaurants built over the sandy beach, serve grilled meat, seafood and more. Try the wine made from local grapes and produced by the owner Nikos. Located at the edge of Skala Eressos is Eressos Palace Restaurant, yet another top quality restaurant in Eressos with a great variety of dishes to suit every palate.

Across from Eressos Palace and right on the beach you will find Georgios and his beach activities. For a lot of fun you can choose to be pulled out to sea on one of his large inflatable tires or simply hire one of his sun beds and lounge the day away.
Heading back into Skala and on the right you will find Soiledis Jewelry who have a large range of bracelets, rings, earrings, chains and crosses for you to choose from. On the left is Alkaios Giftshop another store with a wide variety of gifts, t-shirts, hats, handbags, beach towels and postcards.

Next door is Opsis Giftshop another souvenir shop and further along is Apothiki an amazing little store with two locations in Eressos. Icons, jewelry, candles, ceramics, bracelets and talismans are just some of the items that you will discover. The second doctor surgery is located a little further down from the Apothiki and on the other side of the road.

Georges Silver Shop has a large range of unique and interesting pieces. The Leather Workshop sells hand made wallets, belts and jewelry. They can repair shoes and just about anything made from leather. Kostas at To Steki offers tasty souvlakia, lamb chops French fries, salads and more. Cemeli run by Dimitri is yet another grill-house in Eressos offering food on the go and nearby Krinellos has an amazing supply of souvenirs, gifts, sunglasses and beach toys.

The butcher shop run by Pavlos has all your fresh meat and poultry needs covered while Antonia and Kosta’s Bakery have a selection of bread, sweets and savory treats that will tempt you away from the beach and into their store. The Pharmacy is located in the middle of town and is the only one available for prescription drugs and non prescription items.

Stelios Cigarette Shop stocks local and international newspapers, magazines, maps, phone cards and souvenirs. Amerikanos Butcher Shop not only has fresh meat to choose from but a selection of local produced cheeses and yoghurts. Michalis Jewelry Shop offers a beautiful selection of watches, white gold, yellow gold and silver items. Repairs and battery changes are also possible as is the creation of jewelry of your own design. Nearby is Ioannis and Gaby another restaurant with a menu to tempt your appetite.

There is no large supermarket in Eressos. There are three mini-markets located near Ioannis and Gabby that are suitable for your grocery shopping. While there isn’t a large range of products available, all products are fresh and are restocked daily.

In the evenings why not relax at the Open Air Cinema? Watch the evening show bathed in moonlight and surrounded by the aroma of night-flowers. Next door is Helidoni a beautiful store with an excellent selection of beautiful gifts and CDs.

Naos Dancing Club is the place to be if you want to party to the wee hours of the morning. Loud music, lights and drinks create a recipe for a good night out.

Just follow you the scent of freshly baked bread and this will lead you to Andromahi and her bakery near the Church of Agios Andreas. Aromatic cookies, pastries, cakes and more will tempt your appetite. Buy a tiropita for a yummy breakfast.
